“It was Probably the Best Goal I ever Scored”‚ – Roy Wegerle

On 20th October 1990 the R’s played Leeds United at Elland Road. QPR won the game 3-2 with two goals from Roy Wegerle and one from Ray Wilkins.

However, the R’s had been 2-0 down after 17 minutes. Ray Wilkins pulled one back 12 minutes later and then in the 40th minute, Roy Wegerle scored his ‘six-step sizzler’.

It was 2-2 at half-time, but Wegerle rounded it off to score the R’s winner with his second goal ten minutes from time:

‘ Collecting the ball on the right-hand flank, Wegerle jumped over Glynn Snodin’s sliding tackle, waited for David Batty to leap into a challenge before slipping the ball through his legs, beat Gary McAllister with a step-over, accelerated and prodded the ball forward to evade the diving John Pearson, jinked to wrong-foot Chris Whyte and drove a low shot just inside the post.’

The Rangers line-up that day was: Stejskal, Bardsley, Sansom, Parker, McDonald, Maddix, Wilkins, Barker, Ferdinand (Falco), Wegerle, Sinton.
