The Coppa Carnevale 2009 U20’s Club Tournament

The Club recently confirmed that an U20’s Youth side will indeed participate next month in the Coppa Carnevale in Viareggio, Italy. Being involved in this prestigious Tournament is a major coup for the Club. There are forty teams involved who line up as follows:-

Group A

Girone One: Inter Milan, Queen’s Park Rangers, Palermo, A.P.I.A. Leichhardt Tigers.
Girone Two: Juventus, Maccabi Haifa, Parma, Frosinone.
Girone Three: Torino, Belasica Strumica, Bari, Independientes. FE.
Girone Four: Sampdoria, Pakhtakor, Bologna, Rimini.
Girone Five: Empoli, Spartak Mosca, Siena, Club Nacional.

Group B

Girone Six: AC Milan, Pumas Mexico, Vicenza, Cesena.
Girone Seven: Roma, AGF Aarhus, Reggina, Cisco Roma.
Girone Eight: Fiorentina, Dukla Praha, Pisa, New York Stars.
Girone Nine: Atalanta, Midtjilland, Rappr. Serie D, Novara.
Girone Ten: Genoa, Anderlecht, Lazio, Racing Club De Bobo.

The R’s first match will be against Inter Milan on Monday 9th February followed by another top Italian side, Palermo two days later. Up next on Friday 13th will be the Australian side, A.P.I.A. Leichhardt. It will mean of course that players such as Romone Rose and Danny Maguire can play. The Competition started in 1949 and Ipswich Town managed to finish runners-up in 1981 and 1982.     Well done whoever thought of, and arranged it.
    The more exposure our youngsters get to different types and styles of football, the better.
