On the 24th of November 1894, Rangers took on City Ramblers in the third round of the Middlesex Senior Cup at the Kilburn Cricket Club ground.

You could have taken the 1.38 from Broad Street to Queen’s Park Station (L. & N.W.R.)

The match kicked off at 2.45pm and the following report appeared a few days later:

‘This senior match at Queen’s Park, the Rangers’ ground, was very fast and full of excitement.

At the commencement, the home team began to press but were prevented from scoring by the fine defence of the Ramblers.

Twenty minutes from the start, the Rangers scored their first goal – well earned!

This had a rousing effect upon the visitors, for they played very determinedly, but could make no headway against the home backs, whose hard kicking prevented the Ramblers from shooting.

In the second-half, play slowed down considerably on account of the heavy state of the ground and the fast play of the first part. Here the Ramblers fell off a bit in their play.

A long kick by a Rangers back caused the ball to strike the crossbar and rebound into play.

An offside goal to the Rangers was promptly disallowed by the referee, whose decisions were not at all to the liking of the 2,000 spectators.

Another goal fell to the home side, the Queen’s Park Rangers going into the next round by two goals to nil.’

W. Smith scored both the Rangers goals.

Rangers were then knocked out by Harrow Athletic in the next round.
