On a very warm evening, it was the hosts who provided the first opportunity following a swift breakaway. The cross over from the right found the unmarked No.12 in the box, who put the ball wide of the target.
Then, shortly after, Teddy Jenks screwed the ball past the upright.
There was a long delay after Kaleb Dyke had remained grounded. Eventually he was stretchered off to be taken to hospital with what was said to have been a broken arm!
Charlie Warren was quick off the mark when he advanced around thirty yards to head the ball away to safety.
Rangers’ first attempt on goal was provided by Cory Adjetey-Brew. After winning the ball, he then moved forward before shooting into the side-netting.
The R’s keeper was at it again when he shot forward to head the ball away from a good twenty-five yards.
Leon Scarlett got himself to the bye-line, where his cross was grabbed by the Reds keeper, diving at the near post.
At the other end, Charlie Warren, diving backwards, superbly tipped the ball over the bar for a corner.
For the R’s, Philip Sanyaolu skipped his way into the box, but a well-timed challenge denied him pulling the trigger.
The half-time whistle was blown after at least eight added minutes.
Worthing had the best of the early stages, and their No.7’s deflected shot ended up in the keeper’s gloves.
After the Reds were awarded a free kick in a widish position, Sam Packham’s attempt went over Charlie Warren before rebounding off the inside of the upright.
Sammy and I decided to leave before the final whistle in order to catch the 9.33, back to Victoria.
