Leicester City were to be crowned champions and Rangers finished the season in fifth position behind Chelsea, Birmingham City and Sunderland. The biggest shock was the transfer of Stan Bowles to Nottingham Forest in December, but Clive Allen notched up a magnificent 30 league and cup goals.

However, Clive Allen signed for Arsenal in the summer of 1980 for a large fee, but ironically he didn’t play a single league or cup match for them before heading off to Crystal Palace shortly after.
