Wigan Athletic v QPR

Posted on by Site Admin

Team: Kenny, Derry, Connolly, Hall (Harriman), Gabbidon, Perone, Taarabt, Faurlin, Buzsaky (Bothroyd), Agyemang, Smith (Andrade) Subs Not Used: Murphy, Ephraim, Helguson, Hewitt Attendance: 17,225 It was a disappointing result to say the least. We had some really good chances to take the lead, but failed to do so and paid the price. Once Wigan scored, the game was virtually over. Let’s face it, we had problems much of the time when we had to chase the game in the Championship. … Continue reading

QPR v Rochdale

Carling Cup Second Round Team: Murphy, Orr (Harriman), Connolly, Perone, Shittu, Taarabt, Cook (Hewitt), Ephraim, Rowlands (Derry), Andrade, Bothroyd, Subs Not Used: Cerny, Buzsaky, Gibbons, German Attendance: 4,755 I suspect that was the last time we will see Cookie and Rowlands in a Rangers shirt. Sad, not the way I’d like to see them bow out with Rowlands substituted after pulling up with a hamstring problem and Cookie taken off a couple of minutes later. Unfortunately the game was dire. … Continue reading

Everton v QPR – Shaun Derry My Lord

Posted on by Site Admin

Team: Kenny, Orr, Derry, Hall, Gabbidon, Connolly, Taarabt, Faurlin, Buzsaky, Agyemang (Bothroyd), Smith (Ephraim) Subs Not Used: Murphy, Gorkss, Perone, Vaagan Moen, Andrade Attendance: 35,008 A great day, the starting line-up looked a little bizarre at first, but then word started to go round about the virus. We had the rub of the green occasionally, but the team played with a great deal of confidence and, when Tommy Smith did score after 30 minutes, it came after a spell of … Continue reading

The Indy R’s Are Pleased to Welcome Tony Fernandes & the Return of Amit Bhatia

Posted on by Site Admin

Yesterday was an historic day in the life and times of Queen’s Park Rangers. I’ve already heard so many positives in a relatively short space of time after listening to each of them talking up the club. I just hope and pray that this new partnership really is the beginning of a new dawn which will also involve a new transparent relationship with R’s fans which has been long overdue.. Tony Fernandes has spoken philosophically about his strategy for the … Continue reading

Team: Roberts, Bardsley, Wilson, Peacock, McDonald, Impey, Wilkins, Holloway, Ferdinand, Allen, Sinton (Barker) Subs Not Used: Stejskal, Ready Attendance: 19,057 The R’s have only won 4 times at Goodison Park in 22 visits and two of those came in the same year. Our last victory there was on 20th November 1993 and we also beat them in a dramatic encounter the previous April. Richard Tanner wrote the following report for the Daily Mirror: ‘Goal-hungry Les Ferdinand hammered his second hat-trick … Continue reading

Wes’s Grand Tour

Posted on by Site Admin

It was late July and the kids were off to Majorca with their Mum. I had a week of leave booked just in case I was required to fulfil my parental responsibilities. So now surplus to requirements, what was I to do with my week off ? Yes you guessed it, follow QPR into Europe and confirm to my family and friends that I wasn’t going round the twist, but had qualified for the loony bin ! I left Exeter … Continue reading

5,573 Days – QPR v Bolton Wanderers

Posted on by Site Admin

There’s an old adage that patience is a virtue, but waiting 5,573 days proves that QPR fans have the patience of a saint. When the teams walked out on the pitch on Saturday it had been that long since we staged a football match at Loftus Road in English football’s top tier. That last game took place on Saturday 27th April 1996, in front of our biggest crowd of the season. We thumped West Ham 3-0, but it was too … Continue reading

The Visit of Al-Ahly to Loftus Road in 1988

Posted on by Site Admin

There were no home friendlies this summer of course, but there was an interesting fixture in 1988 when top Egyptian side Al-Ahly visited Loftus Road. I had the match programme, but no record of the Rangers line-up, so I asked Gordon Macey to help me out with the team details: Team: Nicky Johns, Wayne Fereday, Mark Dennis (David Pizanti 76 min), Paul Parker, Alan McDonald (Brian Law 85 min), Gavin Maguire, Martin Allen, Kevin Brock (David Kerslake half time, then … Continue reading

Halt ! For Gootness Sake der “Bushmen” Are in Sight & They Mean Bizzness

Posted on by Site Admin

The title doesn’t refer to a warning given out to the other Premier League Clubs, but it actually comes from a WW1 propaganda postcard that I have in my collection. It looked interesting when I purchased it and realised of course, that it might not even have any connection with the Bush. Later on closer scrutiny, the postmark revealed that it was posted from Shepherds Bush in September 1915. Then, I came across an article on ‘The Bushmen – 1915’ … Continue reading
