Team: Kenny, Diakite, Hill, Ferdinand, Onuoha, Taiwo (Traore), Barton, Wright-Phillips (Buzsaky), Taarabt, Mackie, Zamora Subs Not Used: Cerny, Gabbidon, Derry, Smith, Bothroyd Attendance: 18,015 (including 3,155 away fans) This was a demoralising defeat that leaves me feeling that we will now be relegated. I had been reasonably confident that we’d stay up, but I can actually see us finishing bottom. The team lacked passion and spirit. How people like Clint Hill and Jamie Mackie must feel surrounded by team mates … Continue reading →

SR: Andy, I read in the local Chronicle that you share a birthday with Keith Richards, have you ever met him ? AM: Sadly no, I have never got the call. I have met some big names, but I’ve never been a name dropper mainly because when I did meet anyone significant there wasn’t much to say about it afterwards….except when I met Stan Bowles. We played in a Soccer 6 tournament at the Phoenix Festival back in ’96 and … Continue reading →

Team: Lumley, McDonnell, Walker, Champion, Brown, Sendles-White, Comley, Hubble, Gibbons, Monthe, Webb. There were a number of players missing from the starting line-up for various reasons. Emmanuel Monthe had already played in a number of positions throughout the season and this time he started upfront. Despite his imposing stature, Monthe is deceptively quick and has an array of skills in his armoury. The first chance fell to Jordan Gibbons following a good corner. As the ball came in, he dipped … Continue reading →

Apart from being the best QPR keeper I’ve ever seen, Phil Parkes is also remembered for those 1970’s Cossack hairspray adverts, and even their kit bag !!! It provoked plenty of banter at the time and apart from the magazine adverts, apparently there was even at least one television commercial featuring him saving a Frank Worthington penalty presumably without a hair out of place. “Almost more people ask me where I got my Cossack Kit Bag, than my autograph!” A … Continue reading →

We knew that Neil was terminally ill, but it still came as a great shock of course when we heard the news that he had indeed passed away. Although Neil had resided in Kent for many years, Dale Matthews told me that they had both attended Flora Gardens Primary School and he was fairly sure that Neil had grown up in Nasmyth Street which is by the Thatched House pub in Hammersmith. When he arrived at the Springbok for the … Continue reading →

This cigarette card is the fourth in the series and features one of our goalkeepers from the mid-1900’s.Cohen Weenen & Co. was a small tobacco company based in London. They produced their first set of cards in 1901. Then in 1906, Series No.2 of: ‘Owners, Jockeys, Footballers, Cricketers,’ was issued. This set of 50 cards included QPR goalkeeper Arthur Howes. The reverse side of the card reads: ‘Howes, Queen’s Park Rangers, whose goal-keeping has been exceptionally good during the present … Continue reading →

Team: Kenny, Hall (Gabbidon), Taiwo, Ferdinand, Onuoha, Traore, Buzsaky (Mackie), Taarabt, Barton, Wright-Phillips, Zamora Subs Not Used: Cerny, Hill, Derry, Bothroyd, Smith Attendance: 20,252 The 1st half was simply unacceptable against a team who had what we lacked in abundance….hunger, desire, passion and a will to win….Jamie Mackie apart. You have to earn the right to play your football and impose yourself. We were dreadful and got our just rewards. We were overrun in the middle of the park and … Continue reading →

The following article was written by Ian Cooper and appeared in this week’s Brent & Kilburn Times: ‘The Premier League’s new Elite Player Performance Plan promises to change the face of youth football in England, and nowhere more so than at QPR. The EPPP scheme, which was voted through by the Football League in October, is an overhaul which will guarantee funding for youth football over a four-year period and include the establishment of a four-tier hierarchy of youth academies. … Continue reading →

Mick McCarthy’s Wolves won their first league match since the first week of November by coming back from a goal behind against ten-man QPR at Loftus Road. Second-half goals from Matt Jarvis and substitute Kevin Doyle may have relieved the pressure on McCarthy, but he owes a huge dollop of gratitude to QPR’s new signing Djibril Cisse who was red-carded just after the half-hour mark for serious foul play allegedly following a pub football challenge from Roger Johnson. It was … Continue reading →

Team: Kenny, Young, Taiwo, Ferdinand, Onuoha, Derry (Ephraim), Mackie, Barton, Wright-Phillips, Hulse (Smith), Cisse (Macheda) Subs Not Used: Cerny, Hill, Hall, Balanta Attendance: 32,063 (including 1,495 R’s fans) We were not lucky to win a point. The result was a fair reflection. Rangers played them off the pitch for the first 45 minutes. We looked comfortable in every position and Villa were awful. We even had their lot behind the goal singing: “We are embarrassing” in reply to us singing: … Continue reading →
