Bolton game

Post by ESSEXURs »

Attended by Young Kerrins and myself but you can’t blame us for the lack of finishing. :D

We both thought Kone and Burrell are mere shadows of their original form when they
played so well together and scored frequently.

Do they need to be played together or have injuries taken their toll. If it is injuries we
need to consider replacements up front. A fit Kolli would have taken some of the many
chances we created.

Our approach play and goalkeeper distribution is so much better and it is just the finishing t
hat is letting us down. We are also far more disciplined at the back and I like Edwards in his
more midfield roll.

We still lack in my opinion an experienced midfield general.

Hi Essex,

Good to read your comments on yesterdays game.

I think their is the making of a very good team, given time to gel.

I have seen some very unfair comments on the cameo appearance of Tariq Lamptey towards
the end of the second half.

The guy was out of the game for nearly a year with an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury and has
made a very good recovery (September was the original date for his return to training) and yet still
some find time to moan and gripe. I find that most annoying.

Give the lad some support, he looks a very good prospect, and in my opinion will come good.

Must agree about Tariq.
He had to ease himself in but later in the game he had an excellent run into the box so
one cannot question his commitment. I thought he played and fitted in well given the serious
injury he recovered from.

Some people are never satisfied!

It was really nice to meet up with Steve R Colin W and Keith Rowley at the game on Saturday.

Everything but the goal :!:

We played some very good high tempo quality football and dominated play. Sadly we missed
a shed load of chances which cost us victory. Anyway onwards and lets hope upwards

It’s ironic that we turned down Charlie Austin up there with our top finishers for a coaching job
when our main weakness is finishing!
I assume we work on finishing in training but you have to wonder as this has been going on for at least
two seasons.
Our goals at Portsmouth hardly broke the net so hopefully the subject has been given priority in training.

What would help was if our main striker Kone, was sharper in front of goal and took
some of his chances.

He looks unfit and and overweight to me, or it could be the fact that he found his level
at Wycombe Wanderers.

Either way he has to up his game, after a good start with the club he has fell away badly.

Just my opinion by the way.

Very happy to see us play a strong game where we made many chances and didn't allow ourselves
to be under much threat.

I'm seeing players who appear to know and stick to their primary role and this is definitely supporting
a fluent team game.

One goal conceded every two games would serve us well through the season.

The failure to take even one of our clear chances was disappointing in a match that we won in every
other department.

With Kone, I am recognising a pattern that we saw with Frey and Armstrong. These powerful players
need to be on their run early to capitalise on their attributes. Waiting until the chance fully materialises,
leaves them lost for early acceleration and seemingly great chances dissipate to nothing. An early powerful
where these players aren't then shrugged off the ball easily seems to be the playing style that they need.
