QPR Screen References: No.19 – EastEnders Episode – 14th January 2014
South Devon R alerted me to a surprising QPR reference in a episode of
‘EastEnders’ on BBC One.
So I then watched (part) of my first ever episode on BBC iPlayer and sure enough
nine or so minutes in, Terry Alderton (who plays a cab driver) says to a stallholder
in Albert Square: “Do you know, I feel about as welcome as a Chelsea fan at
Loftus Road at Bianca’s at the minute”.
Actor, comedian and presenter, ESSEXURs forwarded me some further background
details from Terry Alderton’s own webpage: “After leaving school I wanted to play
football as I had been playing for Southend as a youth player.
Although I had offers from QPR and others, I wanted to stay on at the Shrimper’s
which I did.”
His reference to the R’s must of resulted in some kind of response as the following
day he tweeted this explanation: ‘Ok last time, in EE I’m playing a character! I am
& will always be a Southend United fan! My character is a QPR fan! Not me!
