Stoke Yesterday....

Post by Steve Russell »

The early kick-off accounted for some of the late arrivals but I was
told that there was an entry problem with two of the Loft turnstiles.

Andy Sinton's arrived on the pitch pre-match to rapturous applause.
He was very pleased to be back & we were very pleased to see him
again after his recent health scare.

Stoke had a lot more possession throughout the game but did little
with it in the final third. In fact they mustered just the one attempt
on target.

Their best opportunities came in the 2nd half when Million Manhoef
somehow headed over the crossbar from point-blank range

And Liam Morrison was well-placed to clear the ball to safety from
in front of the goal-line.

Surprisingly our only substitution came around the hour-mark when
Isaac Hayden was introduced.

Someone suggested bringing Paul Smyth on but who would
you take off I said?

Loftus Rd erupted 15 mins or so from the end with Harvey Vale's wonderful
strike. I don't think we've seen the best of him yet.

How refreshing has it been to see the pairing of Rumarn Burrell & Richard Kone.

Loved the players celebrations after the goal & also later following the final
whistle :D

Most of the stars of 75/76 were introduced at half-time, together with family
members of others who were no longer with us....

Gerry Francis was interviewed but I couldn't catch most of what he was saying?

And Don Shanks announced that he (at the age of 73) was going to do the
New York Marathon again, Well done Don....

It was a great game, totally thrilling throughout (except for the Stoke players' long
spells lying on the grass :? )

Some great individual performances from the Rs - especially considering Stoke were 2nd in the table
before the game.

btw, the more observant of you will have noticed that AKUTRs wasn't on sale for the Stoke game.
Well, I bumped into one of the sellers (Julie Evans - stands outside the Loft entrance) after the game,
and she told me that Dave had problems at the printers.Normal service will be resumed.

We deserved the win.

Highlight of the game was Saito's dazzling individual run. He put his right boot in, his right boot out ,
in, out, and shook it all about. Whoaah the Stokey Koki. That's what it's all about.

The goal reminded me of the Wembley Play Off goal.

Robins after the match complained about the pitch saying it had been left long due to problems
with the pitch requiring treatment. He also said he’d been told to wash everything that touched it!!
Surprised we played on it if it was that toxic

As previously mentioned most Stoke players spent much of the game rolling around on the grass in
terminal agony. It would be interesting to know if their skin has turned purple :D.
Does anybody know about the pitch problems?
