Charlton Yesterday......

Post by Steve Russell »

Good to meet up pre-match with Steve Bolger & his good lady from
Waterford.

With excellent support backing the team, they were straight out the blocks.

Paul Smyth gave us an early lead & on 11 minutes, the fans stood to clap for Andy Sinton
who no doubt was watching the game at home.

I thought the visitors grew into the game & had the best of the
2nd period of the half & this continued for some time after the interval.

We knew that Koki Saito would be introduced at some point after the break & from the
moment he came on he oozed quality.

Then the run from the around the half-way line to score such a remarkable goal on
84 minutes :D

A good finish from Richard Kone in added time completed the scoring.

Wonderful celebrations at the final whistle that continued for some time.
Richard Kone was still really pumped up as he engaged with the fans.

Can't remember who it was that put Saito over his shoulder & trot upfield

A mixed performance, a wonderful return for Koki Saito & a massive 3 points :D

Attendance: 16,875

Great game. Good to get ahead early. Really energised the atmosphere.

Nervy spell, poor equalising goal plus our crossbar was hit.

Saito's excellent goal sent the place into raptures. It was Jimmy Dunne who hoisted
Koki into the air.

Kone took his goal well to close the game out at 3 - 1.

Not sure why Smyth went off at half time.

A great watch and a deserved win.

Aria had a brilliant time Steve.

It was a spectacle for her to see supporters other than her and myself wearing QPR shirts.

She had her name up on the big screen and included in the pre-match announcements.

She got well into the game and was cheering on throughout.

We sat in second row of East Paddocks on the edge of the penalty box and had a great view of the second
and third goals. She loved the goal celebrations.

Great game for her first time. She will be back to Loftus Road alright.

Despite everything we do have better players than Charlton. They are mediocre at best in this
level of football. My view was that we were expected to win against them at home and duly did
so.

Kone made it safe and we need him to score a decent amount of goals this season.

I will become more upbeat when we get a convincing win against a decent Championship team.

Until then..... the jury is undecided. Although I do appreciate that you can only beat what is in
front of you

PS Well done to Conor and Grand Daughter

Against a decent side, we will def be found out re: goalkeeping.

Twice our keeper dropped his catch and collected again quickly ---- one of these times a Charlton
forward was close to stabbing he ball in to the net.

Also, how does the keeper reflect on his part in the goal conceded?

Conor. You make a good point about our goalkeeping situation.

I don't wish to be too unkind but is Walsh just there to take Goal Kicks and accept pass backs?
He cant make the decent/brilliant sometimes match winning saves that Nardi can.

The problem is Nardi was under Stephan at Rennes for six months and for some unknown reason
he was sent packing! I reckon not much future for Nardi at Loftus Rd sadly.
