Report from the Club...
'QPR FC Women concluded their pre-season schedule with a narrow 1-0 defeat to
AFC Wimbledon Women on Sunday afternoon, delivering another competitive display as
they prepare for the start of the new campaign.
Danny Harrigan’s side began brightly, enjoying spells of possession and looking to build
from the back against a compact Wimbledon outfit.
Rangers goalkeeper Kenny Clarke was called into action early on, making a sharp save to
deny a deflected effort.
At the other end, Grace Stanley broke through the backline on several occasions, testing
the Wimbledon stopper with a well-struck effort from distance. On the half-hour mark,
Trialist A saw her low strike blocked, before Stanley’s rebound shot cleared the crossbar.
The hosts then took the lead in the 33rd minute when Daisy McLachlan converted from
close range after Clarke had made an initial save.
Following the break, Rangers came out with renewed intent, pressing higher up the pitch
and creating a number of opportunities.
Trialist A sent a shot narrowly wide before Jess Leach was denied from close range.
Clarke continued to be called upon between the posts, too, producing an excellent
one-on-one stop to prevent the hosts from doubling their advantage, while Wimbledon
later struck the woodwork.
As full-time approached, QPR pushed for an equaliser. Natalia Makowska’s surging run
down the flank found Leach, whose delivery reached Alana Munro, but her curling effort was saved.
Despite the defeat, it was a performance full of endeavour and attacking intent from Harrigan’s
side, who now turn their attention to their opening league fixture away to MK Dons Women at
Stadium MK on Sunday, 17th August.
QPR: Clarke, Searle (Wellesley-Davis 80), Brooks, Lewin, Doyle (Gotch 46), Owen (Blodgett 35),
Ali, Mehmet (Leach 75), Trialist A (Munro 75), Stanley (Leach 35) (Makowska 56), Dzyadyk (Stanley 65).'
