Kakay injury not as bad as QPR feared
By West London Sport 30/03/2023
A knee injury suffered by QPR defender Osman Kakay is not
as serious as initially feared.
Kakay was forced to come off at half-time during the home defeat by
Birmingham prior to the international break.
On Thursday morning he seemed unlikely to play in Saturday’s vital
game against bottom side Wigan.
However, scans have shown there is no ligament damage, so Kakay is
expected to return to action sooner rather than later.
R’s boss Gareth Ainsworth explained: “Ozzy’s done his knee against
Birmingham in the first half.
“Him coming off at half-time – someone like Ozzy never comes off – was
a concern. He’s been in the treatment room and we’ll have to judge
that one closer to the game.
“It’s not as bad as we first thought. We thought it could be ligament
damage, but it’s not ligaments.”
Kenneth Paal has also had a knee problem and will be assessed ahead of
the trip to Wigan, where Rangers badly need to win following a dismal run
which has left them just six points above the relegation zone.
Chris Willock, Ethan Laird and Leon Balogun have all been passed fit to
return to the squad.
