0-2 Defeat in the FA Youth Cup...

QPR UNDER-18s’ involvement in this season’s FA Youth Cup was ended by Bournemouth on Wednesday night.

Rangers recovered after conceding early to Daniel Adu-Adjei but ultimately couldn’t find a response at the Vitality Stadium.

Instead it was the hosts who progressed, with Noa Boutin’s strike 13 minutes from time sealing their place in the Fifth Round.

Micah Hyde’s side – who overcame Oldham Athletic in the previous round courtesy of a 2-1 win at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium – suffered an early setback on the south coast.

The evening was less than three minutes old when a cross from Finn Tonks was met by Adu-Adjei, who poked home ahead of R’s goalkeeper Matteo Salamon.

Rangers recovered well and, after showing signs of nerves early on, grew into the encounter. Clear-cut chances in the first half were largely at a premium, though.

That was until the closing stages, when Salamon twice came to the R’s rescue on the stroke of half-time.

The R’s goalkeeper first pushed Michael Dacosta Gonzalez’s 18-yard effort around the post, before making an even better save to deny the same player from the opposite angle moments later; diving low to his left to tip away the midfielder’s next attempt to ensure Rangers only trailed by one at the interval.

It was a different story after the break, as Rangers went on the front foot from the re-start.

They were almost rewarded five minutes into the half. The R’s first corner of the evening eventually found its way to captain Henry Hawkins, but he could only drag the chance wide from 12 yards.

It wasn’t until the hour-mark when Salamon was called upon again, this time helping over an effort from Adu-Adjei from a tight angle just inside the box.

Rangers rode their luck seven minutes later when Adu-Adjei was guilty of missing a gilt-edged opportunity. Another cross from Tonks picked out the Bournemouth frontman, but on this occasion Adu-Adjei prodded wide with the goal at his mercy.

Bournemouth came again and would have doubled their lead but for a stunning save. A free-flowing move ended with Marcus Daws seeing a curler expertly clawed away by a flying Salamon.

Rangers were beaten, however, from the Cherries’ next attack. Bournemouth left-back Boutin latched on to a ball in behind before emphatically firing into the back of the net.

The R’s fought until the final whistle – Stephen Bala stinging Ollie Camis’ palms late on – but they were left frustrated as Bournemouth celebrated victory at the final whistle.
