Possession

Post by ESSEXURs »

Why have we such low possession figures whether home or away?
I know possession is not everything but it presupposes we have the
players to undertake fast counter attacks.

We do not have many such players and the few that we have would find
themselves without support.
We just let poor teams grow in confidence instead of hitting them early
to stop them settling.
I fail to see the logic!

The problem for me is we have such a lack of quality in our our squad, that
we are unable to retain possession for any length of time.

There was a time when our club was renowned for flair players and game changers,
the late great Stanley Bowles would have the ball stuck to his left foot.

He would draw fouls from opposition players, he had a great eye for a defence splitting
pass and weighed in with many goals over his career.

Unfortunately those days are long gone, our team nowadays lacks pace and quality.

Once again we witnessed the opposition comfortably stroking the
ball around amid shouts from the stand of, "close him down" &
"put in a challenge"

If I had been there I would have been shouting.....put in some effort :!:
Something we have not seen in recent matches!

Another observation from yesterday, 50/50 loose balls were
mainly won by the visitors!

You have to wonder what is really going on behind the scenes.
The team that demolished Leicester admittedly now missing Dembele
who was very up and down and Madsen doesn’t suddenly collectively
look so poor without a reason.

The excellent interplay around the area from that match has gone.
Players are not closing down or able to accurately pass a ball.
In effect they look like they’ve given up and are just doing enough to
not make it obvious.

I have never seen such poor displays lacking in the basic skills and effort
in over 67 years of watching the Rs.
