QPR under 18s beat Colchester United 4-1 this morning at Heston.
The game was played in beautiful sunshine with Rangers starting the brighter team.
But it was. Colchester who opened the scoring ,slightly against the run of play on
11 minutes with their first shot on goal.
Despite the set back Rangers continued playing some lovely football and it wasn’t long
before parity was restored.
On 19 minutes centre back Charlie Street won the ball in the centre circle , took a couple of
strides before threading a pass between the two centre backs. No9 Josh Wright had read the
pass and beat the offside trap, travelled into the box and buried his 15 yard shot into the bottom
corner. 1-1 .
We were now on top and 8 minutes later we took the lead. Josh Wright , in the D, found James McAvoy
out wide right. He took the ball to the byline and crossed into the box. Thomas Wiles met the cross
with a thumping shot that somehow the keeper saved but Thomas smashed home the rebound from six
yards. 2-1.
The last couple of minutes of the first half, saw Colchester penned back in their penalty area.
On 44 , Ashley Trujillo took aim from the corner of the 18 yard box and his low shot came back off the
foot of the far post.
Within seconds Josh Wright had a decent 25 yard shot saved by the keeper. 3 minutes into time added on ,
a ball was crossed into Colchester’s box and both centre backs Charlie Street / Gabriel Cuthbert appeared
to be being held by their respective markers. Street ended up in a heap and the ref awarded a penalty.
Josh Wright sent the keeper the wrong way for 3-1.
The very last action of the half saw a corner into our box with a melee at the far post which saw a
Colchester player hit the cross bar. HT 3-1.
4 minutes after the restart Josh Wright bagged his hat trick. I thought it was his second one this season
but club historian corrected me. He did however double his goal tally following his goal against Brentford
and a double against Bournemouth.
Collecting a pass on the left some 25 yards out, he went on a run and found himself going past players and
when clean through he buried his left shot into the far corner. 4-1.
Another 4 minutes passed when Ashley Trujillo had a brilliant cross shot tipped over the bar. The rest of
the second half was more equal with both teams creating a few more chances but the defences dealt with
them.
A thoroughly deserved win but more pleasing was the performance by the whole team.
