'DON Shanks will be running the New York marathon in November in memory of his former
QPR teammate, the late – and great – Stan Bowles.

Shanks played alongside Bowles in our celebrated side of 1975/76 and he continues to honour
his lifelong friend.

Bowles passed away in February 2024, having lived with Alzheimer’s for nine years.

At the age of 73, Shanks will be taking on the 26-mile challenge to raise funds for Alzheimer’s
Society.

“Alzheimer’s and dementia have touched so many lives, including close friends of mine and my
great teammate at QPR, Stan,” said Shanks.

“Stan has gone, but Alzheimer’s has not.

“Running the marathon will be tough but it’s nothing compared to the daily battles faced by the
families of those living with this dreadful disease.”
