Plymouth Argyle: Frustrating Night at Loftus Rd!

Post by Steve Russell »

The visitors went very close 3/4 times in the first 20 mins.
& we could well have been losing by ht against ten men.

We lacked movement & often gave the ball away.

Plymouth did defend well but we lacked penetration & Marti
got some of his subs wrong in my opinion.

Paul Smyth should have come on much earlier & Sinclair Armstrong
got very little game time.

We notched up 29 shots but most of them were too tame or off target.

The U18's did us proud, thanks to Simon Staal for all his updates...

I have to agree with you it was an extremely frustrating evening, some awful performances in the
R’s team notably Kakay, Kelman and the absolutely woeful Dykes.

Lyndon Dykes is technically a very poor footballer, the truth is we have and will continue to struggle as
long as he is leading our line up front.

Ilias Chair was back to playing for himself again, hogging the ball and frustrating some of his own players.

I fully expect some changes on Saturday, we cannot start like we did tonight or it will be a long afternoon.

A big let down that we could not beat a mediocre team who were down to ten men for a
hour and have an awful away record.

Anyhow Steve R and Tommy what can you expect from our 3 strikers Dykes Armstrong and
Kelman who have scored less than 10 QPR league goals between them in almost 2 seasons?

Blood out of a Stone? Water into Wine? He's good our new manager...but not that good!

Mr Kerrins you have been saying for some time now about our need for strikers,
but Dykes, Armstrong and Kelman make Alan Wilkes, Ron Abbot and Devon White look
like Erling Haaland.

Unless we can address this in some way in January, then our struggles will continue until May.

Hopefully we can move some players on next month and bring in some quality, I don’t know how
with our FFP baggage but it is imperative we recruit better than Dykes, Armstrong and Kelman.

Big game on Saturday against Sheffield Wed and great opportunity to put important points on
the board whilst creating distance from a relegation zone neighbour.

But even if we keep a 4th clean sheet in a row, we will only take away a point if we can’t put
the ball in the net ourselves.

As much as I want them to do well, I can’t get excited about seeing Dykes’ name on the team sheet,
Kelman isn’t showing that he is ready and Armstrong needs to escape from this mode of back to goal
with hold-up play.

I would have Smyth up front all day long and Sinclair / Rayan playing on the run forward onto balls
played ahead of their run.

We desperately need forward options to come into the squad and we desperately need to play a game
that makes the most of what we have got.

If you’ve Smyth, Willock and Chair playing well, that’s a very creative force to put ample opportunities
the way of any decent striker.

Excellent to see the clean sheets happening. But not wanting to see us with a duck egg when we have #
kept a clean sheet.

I do think that Sinclair and Rayan have plenty to give if we play it the right way. But we need at least
one solid striker to come in and quickly.

A lot of weeks ago, we were barely troubling the opposition’s penalty box. Good to see us creating chances now.
But there has to be some level of conversion rate going on.

What does our striker training look through the week? Focused training on readiness to take chances and early
dispatch of solid strikes has got to yield results. Why is it looking so difficult?

Loved that attachment Conor, remember those days very well.

Oh for a striker to emerge in our hoops from somewhere.
