Marti Cifuentes appointed Head Coach at QPR

Post by Tommy Cunningham »

Marti Cifuentes has been appointed Head Coach at QPR, replacing Gareth Ainsworth who departed
the club on Saturday evening. No details on the length of contract, or back room team have been announced yet.

Good luck Marti Cifuentes we all wish you the very best at QPR.

Interesting appointment and the exact opposite to GA in style so I hope our squad can remember
how to play non-hoofball football. :D

Some reports he was considered prior to GA appointment but his club wouldn’t release him so hopefully
we did our homework then. It should be mentioned it is subject to a work permit and knowing our luck it
invites the inevitable!

Hopefully the board would have sounded out this aspect.

I would think that we have been tracking him for a while.

Be interesting to know who the Club used before formulating a decision?

Simon Staal has told me that the media there are saying we are paying out
between £250,000 & £400,000 compensation & he is expected to bring
Xava Calm with him...

I wanted Neil W back to steady the ship but welcome Marti & good luck...

And this from Ian McCullough for West London Sport....

'QPR a step up for Cifuentes, but better football to come

Daniel Kristoffersson, senior football writer for Sportbladet in Stockholm says QPR can expect a
possession-heavy style of play from new coach Marti Cifuentes but says moving from the Swedish
Allsvenskan to the Championship is a big step up for the Spaniard.

However, Kristoffersson believes the 41-year-old has the man-management skills to help turn around a
QPR side that have find themselves six points clear of safety in the Championship.'

I've seen quite a few Swedish fans that are followers of the Swedish league who are worried that the
possession based style of play won't fit our squad.

Many wanted Warnock or Eustace.

What style of play would you say would suit our squad?

I would like to see Armstrong running on to balls rather than receiving static with back to goal.
Who to pair with? Dykes or Kolli?

I think Chair and Smyth could be a strong playmaking duo behind the front two and should be training up a
range of attacking moves that suit their strengths.

Paal, Field and Duke McKenna could well develop a cohesive midfield left to right.

Hard to select a back three in front of Begovic. Are we looking at Cannon, Kakay plus a comrade who can
avoid a red card, mark up and put a tackle in. I’m not sure who I would place my faith in.

3 - 3 - 2 - 2 and needs to be robust, mobile, energetic and creative and at all times look like they are all
working together to a plan that’s fit for purpose. We need slick team play that’s geared to our player’s strengths.
We need a defensive operation that breaks down attacks early and gives nothing away easily.

I’m sure you are glad that I have not followed GA into the hot seat

What team would you put out for our next game and in what shape?

So, to summarise Conor, you want the team to be cohesive, robust, mobile, energetic, creative & slick.
Not asking for much, are you??!!!

Having the ability to do these things should be the basics of being a pro Tommy

Being able to execute these things consistently in matches is the test.

Not expected all at once but this is what we have to be building toward.

Prob take Marti two weeks to get it sorted….?
