Reg Cannon & 2 Trialists included Today - West London Sport

Post by Steve Russell »

News from West London Sport...

'Reggie Cannon is making his first appearance in a QPR shirt this afternoon.

The recent signing, who was an unused substitute for the first team’s 4-0 defeat at home
to Blackburn prior to the international break, is playing for Rangers’ development side in a
game at Bristol City.

It will be the American defender’s first match action since his arrival in west London.

The squad also includes trialists Michael Reindorf and Eric Ameyaw, who are both on the substitutes’
bench.

Midfielder Reindorf, 18, is currently at Norwich City, where his contract expires next summer.

Centre-back Ameyaw, 21, is without a club, having been released by Fulham last year.'

Report from the club...

QPR’s Development Squad faced a 1-0 defeat to Bristol City U21s in this Professional Development League
Two South clash at the Robins High Performance Centre on Tuesday afternoon.

A late strike from Sam Pearson was ultimately enough to separate the two sides as the R’s suffered only
their second defeat of the campaign.

In what proved to be an even test throughout, the clash also saw defender Reggie Cannon featuring for the
R’s following his summer move to west London.

However, it would prove to be the hosts who threaten early on, defender Dylan Kadji testing the Rangers
backline, with his eventual header rattling off the woodwork before being hacked away.

And it was R’s keeper Harry Cant who would initially be called into action with 21 minutes on the clock –
denying Pearson with a fine finger tipped stop.

As the first half progressed Paul Furlong’s side would grow in confidence as Steven Bala and Charlie Kelman
carved out Rangers’ best opportunity of the half.

Bala’s effort blocked on the line, before Kelman fired over – ensuring we would go into the break level.

The Super Hoops started the second half in a positive manner.

Aaron Drewe initially testing the hosts, smartly creating space for himself on the edge of the box, before
dragging his effort wide.

Bala would soon threaten with his audacious effort curing past the upright, with Casey Shann’s strike seconds
later blocked.

As we approached the hour mark, defender Cannon would be replaced by Nathan Jeche as he continues to
build up his fitness following his arrival late in the summer transfer window.

Kelman would become the latest R’s player to test Robins keeper Lewis Thomas, forcing the stopper into a
smart save down to his right.

But, the final 10 minutes would see the clash ignite into life with both sides pushing for what would prove
to be the winner.

A double chance for Bristol City saw Henry Hawkins clearing the ball off the line, before Kai Churchley
rattled the upright.

Before Callum Hutton dragged his effort wide.

Heading into the final exchanges, substitute goalkeeper Conor Clark would replace an injured Michael Reindorf
in a unfamiliar attacking role – owing to a lack of personnel on the QPR bench.

Both sides pushed for the winner and it would fall Bristol City’s way.

Pearson breaking for the hosts, before drilling his effort past a helpless Cant.

Arkell Jude-Boyd would go close to restoring parity late on, but his volleyed effort deep into injury time would be
tipped away by Thomas – signalling the end of a frustrating afternoon in the South West.

QPR’s Development Squad are now back in action on Monday 23rd October as we host Ipswich Town U21’s at
Loftus Road (1pm KO).

QPR XI: Cant, Cannon (Jeche 60’), Shann, Jude-Boyd, Hawkins, Drewe (Ameyaw 60’), Murphy, Sackey, Kelman,
Talla, Bala (Reindorf & Clark 82’)
