Derby

Post by ESSEXURs »

Young Kerrins and I attended our final match of the season and for sixty minutes or so
we played some of the best football of the season.

Unfortunately injuries and poor substitutions cost us the final home game.
Bennie had one of his best games and just needs to add finishing to his game.

Living near Ipswich I was going to attend the final game but with all the injuries and Ipswich
probably needing a win for promotion the thought of watching us capitulate yet again was not
a attractive proposition and I have decided to give it a miss. However it would be typical of us
to upset the form book but I’m not holding my breath!

It has been a strange season blighted by injuries and who knows what would have happened if
Kone and Burrell had stayed fit.
An interesting time ahead to see which sick notes we sign for next season.

Met up pre-match with Colin (ESSEXUR's) & Bernard (Kerrins) in 'The Eagle'
in the Askew Road.

As for the match, we played some of the best of the season in the first 70 mins
or so & then......

That Derby winner was the 70th goal we've conceded this campaign.

Some superb defending from Norrington-Davies when he cut across Sam Szmodics
in the box which allowed the ball to roll on to Paul Nardi.

Also loved that quick throw-in over to Paul Smyth, in space, in the centre-circle.

Why did we have to use up all our subs & end up with ten on the pitch?

Derby had three shots on target, three goals....

The Paul Nardi situation has been odd to say the least this season.
No.1 in the squad, few opportunities & then brought back yesterday
for his farewell

Well done to Daniel Bennie, superb performance :D

Great to meet up with Steve R and Colin W on Saturday

We were the better side overall and should have won. There was plenty of
excellent football from the R's and a multitude of chances created.
We dominated most of the game yet sadly lost. No justice!

This season our main problem on field is that as a team unit we are nowhere
near solid enough.

More Steel is needed. Often too much of a soft underbelly when on the defensive.
Why should this be :?: Who or What is to blame :?:
Changes in our Style of play from the start of next season is a priority.

For the previous two season we have NOT been a goalscoring outfit. The last season
saw us as the 4th lowest goal scorers in the division. At least that has changed.

We now have Burrell and Kone as our 20 goals combined partnership per season and
indeed for lengthy periods of this campaign these two were not playing together.
Keep them Fit!

We desperately need players like Hill and Derry to knit together the younger players
and add experience and steel to the defence and midfield.

They would not have let us capitulate as we have in several games this season.

There must be an experienced midfield general with at least two more seasons in him we
could acquire. Operating in front of the back four we could at least have a chance of
stopping the recent goals conceded following shots from just outside the area.

That makes sound sense to me Essex. Let us hope the club are thinking along similar lines
