Re: Today's Development Game at Bristol City....
Report from the Cub....
'QPR Development Squad succumbed to two second-half goals as they fell to a 2-0 defeat
away at Bristol City.
Kasey Taylor, who pulled off several top-quality saves to keep us in it throughout, could do
nothing to prevent the goals that decided the game in favour of the Robins.
Anthony Hayes stuck with 17-year-old Taylor in goal – who had a fantastic PDL debut where
he kept a clean sheet last week – and he was immediately called into action just three minutes
into the clash, pulling off a fine stop to deny an opener under heavy pressure from Jack Griffin.
A few minutes later, we had our first meaningful foray up the field, with Rocco Friel firing a
powerful shot goalwards but this was efficiently dealt with by the Robins’ backline.
On the 20-minute mark, our defence needed to work hard to clear the ball, after a goalmouth
scramble in our box.
We would then have a closest chance so far just two minutes later – with Jaylan Pearman
dragging a shot just wide from close range.
Leon Scarlett went closer soon after, after he followed up a threatening run by firing a fierce
effort that Joe Duncan got a glove to at his near post.
Bristol City swiftly broke, and Taylor was forced into a superb double save to keep them out.
With the game approaching the half-hour mark, we had our best chance yet. Teddy Tarbotton
took possession in a dangerous area on the edge of the box before firing an effort goal-bound
which Duncan could only parry into the path of Scarlett – with his audacious attempt at a scorpion
kick being kept out again, falling to Pearman who fired off-target.
Harry Hogg tested Taylor as we went into two additional minutes to conclude the first half,
seeing his low but fierce attempt saved.
On the stroke of half-time, meanwhile, Ridwan Hassan got his foot to an airborne cross but
couldn’t guide his shot on target – meaning we went into the break level after a breathless
first 45.
The second half was far more physical than the first.
We had our first meaningful chance shortly before the 60-minute mark, with Pearman taking
the ball outside the box before firing an emphatic effort at goal, which flew agonisingly wide.
However, in the 63rd minute, our defence was finally breached. A goalmouth scramble from
the Robins saw a few shots blocked and saved, before the ball unfortunately dropped to
Marley Thelwell on 12 yards who fired past a helpless Taylor to give the hosts the advantage.
Looking to add some energy, Phil Sanyaolu and Fraser Neill were introduced, but Rangers
were unable to find that clear-cut chance.
Five minutes from time, Enis Neziri also entered the fray, and Taylor pulled off yet another
stop to keep us in it.
Then, in the last minute of normal time, Griffin received the ball inside the box, before
charging in and doubling the Robins’ lead with a precise strike from very close range.
There would be no time for a consolation, as the hosts saw out the win.
We drop to 14th in the PDL, now four points off the play-offs.
The Dev Squad travel to take on Swansea City next week.
QPR: Taylor, Adjetey-Brew, Wilkie, Cuthbert, Friel, Dyke, Tarbotton, O’Brien (Neill 73),
Scarlett (Neziri 84), Pearman (Sanyaolu 65), Hassan.'
