Norwich Saturday...

Post by Steve Russell »

In appalling conditions we finally notched up our first home league win of the season, :D

Ray Marno told me that it took him nearly 4 hours to get to HQ from Eastbourne

Zan Celar's 1st half injury wasn't a result of a foul, but he he appeared to twist/pull
something as he hit the deck!

But what an impact Rayan Kolli made. Trying to remember if I had seen him score with
his head before, but his anticipation for the cross was excellent.

He also did well to win the ball before heading upfield and coolly firing the ball in the net.

How wonderful was it seeing the Norwich players arguing amongst themselves
But why did Mr Backhouse allow a number of them constantly surrounding & getting in his face.
I think one Norwich player was eventually booked?

Gavin Mahon was inducted into the Forever R's Club at half-time.

I hadn't been aware of the very sad news regarding the passing of Jimmy Dunne's father
earlier in the week. My condolences to him & his family.

The last 2 games has seen us play much fancied teams for promotion in Watford and Norwich, that saw us
take 4 points but in all honesty we should have taken 6 points. The team is much improved and we looked very
organized in those games, a big change from the early games where we were awful and in a nutshell hopeless.

The turnaround has been incredible as I will admit I feared the worst, yet this same group of players have
managed 2 very good performances against very good opposition.

A win against Oxford United on Wednesday night, will have us all buzzing again and hopefully pulling clear of the
relegation zone.

No doubt a lot of us on this forum remember 1986 at Wembley, also pre season last year at the Kassam Stadium where
we were humiliated in a pre season friendly 5-0. It was the beginning of the end for Gareth Ainsworth unfortunately.

Good luck to Marti Cifuentes and the team on Wednesday night.

I stopped making any match predictions following that terrible afternoon at
Wembley

However I will always remember those nights at Stamford Bridge & Anfield etc...

If anyone asks me now I just say we can beat or lose to pretty much anyone

I was over for the Norwich game.

Great to see us playing so well and scoring.

Great entertainment and as Steve says it was good to see Norwich arguing among themselves.

Plenty of industry with intent.

Fair play to Jimmy Dunne with his goal, immense sliding tackle and constant battling.

Up front, Frey as the muscle and Kolli as the nippy finisher would be an interesting partnership to see.

Small nibbles would be the times that we stopped forward motion and passed back - but maybe if we are
playing more confident game this will become a lesser factor —- and Madsen with some wayward passing
and lightweight challenging was my player most needing to improve.

Enjoyed the whole game - the performance set a good vibe in the crowd throughout.
These are the days out that we want to see.

I'd managed to put it out of my mind, Tommy - now you've gone & reminded me!
