Yesterday - Bristol City....

Post by Steve Russell »

I met up pre-match in the Eagle, Askew Rd, with Colin (ESSEXURs)
& Bernard (Kerrins) & later we were joined by Bill from Edinburgh.

Good to bump into Keith Rowley & Colin Rose in there. Colin told me that he
has written a book about growing up in the Bush, which should be available
soon.

Prior to kick-off, I was surprised to see Marti Cifuentes walking around the
pitch. Good to see him do that.

Then, the names of former players from both sides who had lost
their lives serving their country was read out & the 'Last Post' followed the
minutes silence.

At half-time it was good too see the families of 3 former players on their
induction into 'The Forever R's Club', namely; Reg Allen, Des Farrow &
Billy McEwan.

After the break, I thought we were the better side, the defence looked
much tighter, but that said, no shots on target, which obviously must be
addressed asap.

We were denied a blatant penalty & it was ridiculous to see Sam Field
shown a yellow card. Jason Knight went up to him and pushed him over & we just
knew that Mr. Eltringham was going to book both players

Some gaps in the away end but magnificent support from the Rangers contingent.
Attendance: 17,540.

It was really good to meet up with Steve R Colin. Bill and Keith Rowley on Saturday.

There was a marked improvement in the teams style and performance. Mostly the fixture was a
cagey affair but we did get hold of the ball more than of late, were better organised and showed
intent.

Sadly we have nothing up front in the opposition penalty area(as usual) and there is nothing the new
manager (or indeed any manager) can do about that. You cant get blood out of a stone!

Looking at a positive big picture Willock had a good game and Chair is due back following suspension.
Also Sheff Wed, Rotherham and Huddersfield all lost.
