3-2 Win for the U18's Yesterday.....

Post by Steve Russell »

Chris was at the Millwall training ground & wrote
the following excellent report...

QPR under 18s won 3-2 away at Millwall this morning in a game riddled
with poor decisions by the officials. We made two changes to the side
that trounced Colchester last weekend but the outstanding football continued.

The first half was a very even game with both teams playing good football
and going into the second half both teams would have fancied their chances.

Millwall took the lead on 36 minutes when the number 9 was clean through
but going towards the corner flag and as Harry Cant dived at his feet there
was contact but it appeared the Millwall forward had been found by a sniper
as he went down very theatrically. He then sent our keeper the wrong way.

This setback seemed to inspire Rangers as for the next 10 minutes we were
the better team with a few half chances created. On 38 minutes both Talla and
Sackey had shots saved. Millwall went straight up the other end and a left wing cross
drifted to to the far post and hit the top of the bar with the keeper stranded.

Then on 41 minutes Talla went on a mazy run and his shot from 20 yards was
well saved by the keeper with Teddy Lawrence following up and smashing home
from 6 yards to equalise.

Right on half time Talla again went on a run and fed Petrie in the box and the keeper
was forced into a very good save from close range. HT 1-1.

The second half started at a frenetic pace with the action going from one end to the other.
Millwall created two great chances when number 9 was found unmarked in the box but put
his free header wide of the post on 47.

Ten minutes later Cant was forced into a good save from close range albeit at an angle.

We then started to really put Millwall under pressure and on 65 Petrie played a one-two
with Talla and finished superbly from 20 yards.

A minute later came the first poor decision. Millwalls number 9 went one on one with
Cant and they collided by the byline with the ball going out for a goal kick.

Once again Millwalls 9 reacted as if he’d been shot. The referee waved away his appeals.
Then the referees assistant waved to the referee and following a chat a penalty was awarded.
Rangers players were incensed and you could understand why.
Up stepped Millwalls 9 and Harry Cant went full length to make a great save then scrambled
across his goal to make a double save from the follow up. Karma .

Then on 78 came another poor decision. Petrie played a one- two with Talla and was into the
box one on one. Petrie seemed to slip over and the keeper got his hand to the ball as he went
to go round him.

Never a penalty in a month of Sundays. Petrie then sent the keeper the wrong way
to make it 3-1. 5 minutes later Millwall made it 3-2 when a right wing cross was turned
In from 6 yards. For the remaining 10 minutes or so we had to dig in and defend and we
managed to run the clock down. Another good all round performance again.

We’ve won twice as many league games as last season already and to quote Paul Furlong
preseason ‘ we have a very talented and exciting group this season ‘.
A thoroughly deserved away win in my opinion.
