I remember this in 1996, thanks to ESSEXURs for plucking this item from the Aberdeen Press & Journal....
'Tranmere FC has sacked announcer Richie Tierney for poking fun at Queen's Park Rangers' struggle to avoid relegation.
Tierney, who has been the public address announcer at Tranmere for 11 years, is believed to have ridiculed English Premiership QPR, who lie second bottom, after their FA Cup 3rd round victory at Prenton Park on January 16.
He is alleged to have told QPR fans: "Have a safe journey home - and good luck in the Endsleigh League next season."
We had won the game 2-0 with goals from Trevor Sinclair & Nigel Quashie but finished the season second from bottom, 4 points above Bolton & 5 points below Manchester City.

Fake news I reckon.
It says we won away in the FA Cup.
