QPR have appointed Mark Warburton as the club’s new manager on a two-year contract.

Warburton has previously managed at Brentford, Glasgow Rangers and Nottingham Forest.

Upon his appointment at Loftus Road, Warburton told http://www.qpr.co.uk: “I am delighted and privileged to be managing this club.

“When I spoke to QPR they were very clear. They have a solid plan and know what they want. They have a long-term outlook and that appealed to me immediately.

“I am excited about the challenge that lies ahead.” Warburton is known for playing an attractive brand of football, and he added:

“I love seeing players who enjoy their football. I like players being brave in possession, understanding the first thought is to play forward and be positive.

“You have to be fit as well. Work ethic, desire, hunger, passion – all those clichés are so important for us. Get that right and fingers crossed we will move in the right direction.”

After taking over at Griffin Park from Wigan Athletic-bound Uwe Rosler in 2013, Warburton steered the club to automatic promotion from League One.

In the following campaign – Warburton’s only full season at Brentford – the newly-promoted Bees achieved a play-off place, the club’s highest second-tier finish since 1934/35.

In 2015/16, Warburton won promotion to the SPL as well as the Scottish Challenge Cup in his first season at Ibrox, while also reaching the final of the Scottish Cup.

He left Rangers in December 2016 with them second in the SPL. They would finish the season third.

Warburton spent nine months at the City Ground before leaving in December 2017.

Director of Football Les Ferdinand said: “This is a fantastic appointment.

“We spoke with a number of excellent candidates for the position, and Mark ticked all the boxes for us. He loves working with younger players and developing them, and has a great understanding of the game.

“Mark is determined to be a success and we will be giving him our full support to achieve that.”

QPR chairman Amit Bhatia added: “We are all delighted to bring Mark in. The excellent work by John Eustace as interim manager enabled us to spend the required time speaking with suitable candidates.

“I am very pleased with how the recruitment process was carried out, as well as the end result which sees us appoint Mark as our manager.”

A further announcement regarding Warburton’s backroom staff will be made in due course.

Extremely important (in my view) that the club appoints an assistant to Warburton that is not just a pal of his. I just hope that QPR appreciate the contribution that John Eustace and Matt Gardner made in stabilising and organising things on the playing side once Steve McClaren had left the club, and that this is not over looked in the appointment of new backroom staff to assist Warburton.

A good point, Bill. We need our own version of Liverpool's "boot room."
Frank Sibley was always available to fill a gap, back in the day.

Yes Bill....I'm generally pleased with the appointment.

His win stats according to Sky Sports are; Brentford 51%, Glasgow Rangers 66% & Forest 41%.
