You may have seen the ad that appeared on the Official Website back in May and also in the Leeds United programme. Considering that no one knew which division we would be playing in come August, well done to the club and O Publishing for not letting all the hyperbole put them off and ruin their plans. The book is 164 pages and basically it’s an official record of what was an incredible season as we all now know. Starting … Continue reading →

Part One of this article appeared on 17th May and covered the end of Rangers 1975/76 league season, up to the final home game v Leeds United. Here’s the concluding part of the story of that epic season, 35 years ago, when so much was still to occur after Rangers final match of the season. The day after the Leeds game, Sunday 25th April, the team flew to Israel for a friendly match versus Maccabi Tel Aviv, to be played … Continue reading →

Yesterday’s season ticket news caused uproar within the R’s Community. The Board made a futile attempt to justify these outrageous price increases with the following statement: “The Board are keen to stress that the prices are in line with other London-based clubs, and are encouraged by early sales figures following the release of season ticket prices earlier today.” No doubt those sales were unprecedented !!! If that wasn’t bad enough, during the afternoon the devastating news then broke that Amit … Continue reading →

Carlsberg don’t do Saturdays, but If they did I hope they’d allow us to win ! QPR celebrated promotion to the Premier League on a day of high drama and sparked off parties all over Shepherds Bush, Hammersmith and Notting Hill, during and after the game. In years to come, QPR fans will be able to recollect exactly where they were when ‘the news’ came through that we had been waiting for these past seven weeks or so. Personally, I … Continue reading →

Queen’s Park Rangers finally reached the Premier League after beating Watford 2-0 at Vicarage Road. Late goals from Adel Taarabt and Tommy Smith ended a 15 year wait and gave their 2,000 plus travelling fans reason for a double celebration as they also clinched winning the inaugural npower Championship in the process. Top of the league since 20th November, it was only a matter of time before QPR were promoted as the chasing pack took it in turns to swap … Continue reading →

Part 1 of this interview with John Brooks, a member of the highly successful Rangers Youth Team of the mid 1960’s, was run on 15th January 2011 and this is the second and concluding instalment. After running Part One, Colin Parker and Alan Davies, who were also members of that team, posted some very interesting comments and have now got back in contact with John who they have not seen for many years. A broken leg for any player is … Continue reading →

Alec Stock was appointed QPR manager in the summer of 1959 as the successor to Jack Taylor. Many people at the time felt that his appointment would signal the start of a new and more successful era for the club. Stock won favour immediately by restoring the blue and white hoop shirts that had been abandoned a few years before in the early 1950’s. It had been a relatively uneventful decade for the club after the excitement of the immediate … Continue reading →

Some time ago, I managed to pick up the 1936-37 Supporters Club badge. It must be quite rare now and it seems that it was also the very first one that they issued. In the 1936-37 handbook, the ‘Club Chatter’ pages refer to the formation of the Supporters Club the previous season:- ‘A year ago we had not the pleasure of making mention of this worthy body because it did not exist, but now we chronicle its achievements over the … Continue reading →

The 1929-30 season is best known for being the season that George Goddard scored 37 goals in 41 league matches – a goals-per-games ratio that is unlikely to ever be matched by another Rangers striker – and also for being the season when Loftus Road was closed due to crowd disturbances with the home game versus Coventry having to be played at Highbury as a result. In the FA Cup that season, Rangers won their 1st Round tie away at … Continue reading →

Personally, I thought Walker was a MOTM contender again, along with Adel (again). And Gorkss deserves a mention in despatches for keeping Parkin quiet, and don’t snigger, as any player who has scored 7 goals in a team bottom of the league, must be doing something right. The form book wasn’t upset today with North End being involved in 31 goals in 8 away games, including a 6-4 win at Elland Road and a 3-4 reverse with their bitter rivals … Continue reading →
