SR: Dave, growing up in Manchester in the 60’s, were you a City or United fan and did you have any footballing heroes at the time ? DB: Well I was a schoolboy with Coventry City for a long time, but in the end they decided that I was not good enough. When I began as an apprentice professional at Blackpool I was a Manchester United fan, and still am, behind my beloved QPR. SR: After signing professional for Blackpool … Continue reading →

SR: Andy, I read in the local Chronicle that you share a birthday with Keith Richards, have you ever met him ? AM: Sadly no, I have never got the call. I have met some big names, but I’ve never been a name dropper mainly because when I did meet anyone significant there wasn’t much to say about it afterwards….except when I met Stan Bowles. We played in a Soccer 6 tournament at the Phoenix Festival back in ’96 and … Continue reading →

SR: I didn’t realise that you were such a big R’s fan, how did that come about ? SL: I became an R’s fan in October 1985 when I first went to Loftus Road on trial and then a month later as young 15-year-old, I signed schoolboy forms along with Kevin Kingsmore. I remember that season well, the build up to the Milk Cup Final and how proud I felt when we defeated Liverpool in the semi-final. SR: I read … Continue reading →

This is the second and final part of a very interesting interview that took place a few years ago. Once again, thanks to Terry Springett and Mark Jamieson for their help. SR: Do you remember any memorable games at the Rangers ? RS: Not really, I obviously remember the League Cup Final at Wembley when they beat West Brom. I wasn’t here as a player, but my brother was. SR: Ron, you have never decided to do a book. RS: … Continue reading →

PF: First question is from jjcolls. Which front men did you enjoy playing with in your time at Rangers ? KG: Well, obviously I would say Les Ferdinand, great player as everyone knows. Great thrill when you’re a young lad starting off in your professional career and you get to play with someone with so much experience, so much quality. Les was just all-round strong, quick and great in the air. In the latter years, I enjoyed for about 20 … Continue reading →

SR: Did the team know at the start of the 66-67 season that it would be a ‘special’ one, were the players aware that we would be the team to beat ? ML: I can honestly say that yes, we knew it would be special because of the previous season, when we had finished third. Without sounding big headed, we knew that we were more than good enough for the Third Division. We played some good football, we were a … Continue reading →

We recently spent an afternoon at the home of Mark Lazarus. He spoke openly and honestly about his football career and his time with QPR. The interview lasted around six hours and will be split into two parts. The Independent R’s would like to thank both Mark and his wife Fay, for their warm welcome and hospitality. SR: Mark, I understand that your first club was Fulham. ML: Yes, I played for Fulham when I was 14/15 years old. It … Continue reading →

SR: Jeff, I work with a chap who used to be at the BBC years ago and he told me that he remembers you as a ‘warm-up’ comic there. He then bumped into you again a few years ago on a holiday cruise and you spoke about the Rangers. Is there any family connection with the R’s ? Jeff: Hi Steve, it’s always a pleasure to talk about Rangers, so thanks for asking me. I still work as a warm … Continue reading →
