‘You don’t want to see that Rubbish – Come with me to Loftus Road to see Rangers get Promotion to Division One’

Posted on by Steve Russell

The following letter was written by Kevin Conlon to Ron Phillips and appeared in its entirety in the Ipswich Town match programme on 12th April 1974. One of the things I love about it is how Kevin describes student writing paper exactly how he became an R’s fan after a chance meeting with a bus conductor in Piccadilly Circus: ‘First would like to say that the QPR programme is one of the most popular magazines I and about eleven of … Continue reading

Burnley v QPR – Unbeaten league record goes on a frustrating Lancashire afternoon

Posted on by Site Admin

Team: Green, Simpson, Dunne, Hill, Assou-Ekotto, Henry (Jenas), O’Neil (Chevanton), Barton, Kranjcar (Phillips), Hoilett, Austin. Subs Not Used: Murphy, Onyewu, Traore, Faurlin. Attendance: 16,074 This was the only QPR league fixture this season where I have not seen the R’s dominate play. Right from the kick-off we were never really in it. Overall Rangers lacked pace and sharpness and in comparison Burnley were quicksilver. They hustled us into errors all over the pitch and their work rate was superior to … Continue reading

‘It Ain’t all Lavender’ – The Life Story of a very Ordinary Professional Footballer by F. B. Pentland

Posted on by Steve Russell

Frederick Beaconsfield Pentland was a colourful character and certainly no ordinary footballer. He later serialised his career over a number of weeks in ‘All Sports Weekly’. I only have part of this one edition which is dated 3rd December 1921: ‘I concluded last week by remarking that footballers who took things cosy during the close season experienced a rough time when they ‚Äújoined up‚Äù again when they put in training work. As soon as one becomes fit the work is … Continue reading

Millwall v QPR – Rangers Denied Victory in Added Time

Posted on by Site Admin

Team: Green, Simpson, Dunne, Hill, Assou-Ekotto, O’Neil, Kranjcar (Faurlin) – (Jenas), Barton, Henry, Hoilett (Phillips), Austin. Subs Not Used: Murphy, Traore, Ehmer, Cheventon. Attendance: 13,727 On a day when I’d taken a draw before the game, we got just that, but it felt like a loss. Given that we were in control for the vast majority of the game, with Millwall little to offer, we simply didn’t create enough clear-cut chances. There were some good performances and some not so … Continue reading

QPR U18 (0) – Nottingham Forest U18 (1)

Posted on by Steve Russell

The U18’s came into this match with a magnificent unbeaten start to the season. The latest opponents, Nottingham Forest, were one of the sides that had been added to the fixture list last month. Rangers lined up as follows: Smith, Furlong, Kakay, Comley, Wise, Kpekawa, Young, Mitchell, Butler, Shodipo, Grego-Cox. Within minutes, Cole Kpekawa was on hand to block a shot and then Rangers went close when a header was cleared off the line following Brandon Comley’s corner. At the … Continue reading

QPR on World-Wide TV Documentary

Posted on by Site Admin

Just a short time ago at the National Football Museum in Manchester, a select gathering of guests representing football, the media and major Christian organisations attended the launch of my DVD about famous football clubs of church origin, one of which, of course, is QPR. The DVD is based on my book ‘Thank God for Football!’ and has the same title. It was released in the USA in August and is to be broadcast worldwide in six instalments as a … Continue reading

On the reverse side of the card it reads: ‚ÄúThese cards are issued with Taddy’s ‘Myrtle Grove’ medium cigarettes‚Äù. Joseph Fidler was born in Sheffield in 1885. He was signed from Fulham in 1906 and made his first team debut later that year against Clapton Orient on 29th September. canadian online pharmacy … Continue reading

The Irish R’s Meet-Up on 9th November 2013 will now be held at Breathnachs Bar in Kilkenny City

Posted on by Steve Russell

The venue for the Irish R’s meet-up on 9th November for the live screening of our away match against Reading has had to be changed. It was going to be held in O’Driscolls Bar in the village of Graiguenamanagh, but because of the numbers now wishing to attend Eamonn has had to find somewhere else. He also informs me that another reason for the switch was that the village didn’t have the range of accommodation to cater for the number … Continue reading
