The Third Taddy & Co. QPR Cigarette Card – Albert Rogers

Taddy & Co. produced three sets of cigarette cards in their Prominent Footballer series. This is the third QPR card to be featured from the first series issued in 1907.

The reverse side of the card reads: “Grapnel Mixture2 – A delightfully cool Pipe Tobacco, combining the sweetness & fragrance of the better class Virginia Tobaccos with the rich flavour of Latakia. Rather a full-flavoured but an eminently pleasant mixture.’

Little is known about Albert Rogers, but it is recorded that he made his debut for the R’s against Tottenham Hotspur on 2nd September 1907. He scored his first goal for the club on his second appearance five days later against New Brompton. That was the only goal he scored during the 1907/08 season, but he did notch up nine goals during 1908/09.

His 10 goal tally came from 34 league and cup appearances for the R’s before being transferred to Bristol Rovers in 1910. Apparently he drifted out of football two years later.

  1. Love these old cards. Thought I would have a look for more info. Interestingly all Bristol Rovers records of old players only list an A. Rodgers (note spelling)who played from 1909-11 and made 28 appearances. So not sure if the same player. Bristol City subsequently had two generations of Rodgers playing for them the first being born in 1923.
