‘We Are Premier League’ – 2010/11 Season Book Review

You may have seen the ad that appeared on the Official Website back in May and also in the Leeds United programme. Considering that no one knew which division we would be playing in come August, well done to the club and O Publishing for not letting all the hyperbole put them off and ruin their plans.

The book is 164 pages and basically it’s an official record of what was an incredible season as we all now know. Starting with a brief introduction by the editor Ian Taylor, it’s followed by a very lengthy foreword by Neil Warnock where he gives his own personal match-by-match view on the whole season. The book starts in earnest with reports and photos from every pre-season friendly including the game in Italy versus Ravenna,

The chapters are split into months for obvious reasons with reports on every single game plus updates on the league table after every match. It has to be said that looking at every single table update is very satisfying !!! Following the Leeds game, there are a couple of chapters called ‘Party Time !’ which includes some absolutely incredible photos from outside the ground pre-game and inside the ground post-game. The next chapter is called ‘Fan’Tastic !’ and is just pages of photos of fans before, during and after the Leeds game.

The ‘Player of the Year Awards Night’ is featured next and again, there are pages and pages of photos. The last chapter looks forward to the season ahead with a run-down of all our opponents with some really good information, especially for those too young to remember going to places like Anfield to watch QPR !!!

With over 380 photographs, it is a comprehensive review of possibly one of our all-time greatest seasons in our history (depending on your age of course !). Of all the photos it contains , I haven’t got tired of the one on the front cover which is the most beautiful sight EVER and I’ve already bought mugs, postcards and a t-shirt with this image and now I’ve got the book. No doubt it’ll be on the cover of the DVD, and why not ???!

On the downside, my only gripe, and it’s a trivial one, the book is a paperback and a very heavy one as well. I would have thought at the price it cost for advanced subscribers, the least we deserve is a hardback edition. It’s also an odd shape in my eyes, A4 in size, but turned 90 degrees, so it’s very wide. But overall it’s an incredible book from an incredible season. And as it says on the cover: ‘WE ARE PREMIER LEAGUE’.
