Merry Christmas From The Indy R’s

Posted on by Site Admin

Thanks to everyone that has contributed to the website and supported our fundraising efforts. It took quite a long time, but ¬£500 has now been raised for the Paddington Royal British Legion and a cheque will be presented to them early in the New Year. We will continue to support ‘QPR in the Community.’ Our thoughts and prayers go out to Neil Roberts, Trevor Kingham and to all R’s fans that are hospitalised or seriously ill. Although we have had … Continue reading

The First Attempt To Blow Up Hammersmith Bridge.

Posted on by Site Admin

Three times Irish Republicans have attempted to blow up Hammersmith Bridge. The first incident was in 1939 and there were to be two further attempts in 1996 and 2000 respectively and as we know, thankfully all failed. Maurice Childs, a hairdresser from Chiswick, was walking across the bridge in the early hours of the morning when he happened to notice some smoke and sparks coming from a suitcase. He decided to open it and inside he found a bomb which … Continue reading

A pal of mine driving home to the Ealing area was back at 2am…and he had a Leeds fan on board for company. That must of been pleasant ! They crawled back along the M1, from J15 in Northamptonshire, pretty much all the way home. The coaches were back at Loftus … Continue reading

QPR U18 (1) – Millwall U18 (1) – After 90 Minutes But Lost On Penalties.

Posted on by Site Admin

Youth Alliance Cup Team: Deane, Harriman, Sanderson, Doughty, Parmenter, Olley, Bewick, Gibbons, Sharif, Francis, Andrade. This Cup tie was switched to Harlington because the pitch at Millwall’s training ground was deemed unplayable, so the R’s lined up in their away strip. Taylor Parmenter came in for Stephen O’Donnell at centre back and Adam Francis started up-front ahead of Marcel Henry-Francis and the game kicked off earlier than usual at 10.33am. Some good work down the right flank resulted in Michael … Continue reading

QPR v Lincoln City – FA Cup 2nd Round – 14th December 1929 & All Time Rangers Great – George Goddard.

Posted on by Site Admin

The 1929-30 season is best known for being the season that George Goddard scored 37 goals in 41 league matches – a goals-per-games ratio that is unlikely to ever be matched by another Rangers striker – and also for being the season when Loftus Road was closed due to crowd disturbances with the home game versus Coventry having to be played at Highbury as a result. In the FA Cup that season, Rangers won their 1st Round tie away at … Continue reading

QPR U18 (2) – Nottingham Forest U18 (2)

FA Youth Cup 3rd Round Team: Deane, Harriman, Sanderson, Doughty, O’Donnell, Olley, Bewick, Gibbons, Sharif, Henry-Francis, Andrade. Subs: Graham, Parmenter, Francis, Sendles-White, Walker. I was pleased to note that this time the scoreboard was operational and we even had an announcer on the PA, well done to the club for rectifying this. Saturday’s league match with Wycombe at Bisham Abbey was postponed and the only change from the previous starting line-up saw the return of Bruno Andrade in place of … Continue reading

From 1935 – Rangers Travelling Stand &’Peeping Tom’ Visits Loftus Road.

Posted on by Site Admin

It was a mini-sized newspaper, cost 2d (two old pence) and hit the streets on a Thursday. In 1935, the 30th November edition of ‘Sports Budget’ included a very interesting insight into some of the players and characters at the club as part of a series titled, ‘Round the Grounds – With Peeping Tom.’¬† Apart from meeting our trainer who claimed that he could play eight musical instruments, he writes about various Rangers players and also our travelling Stand. I … Continue reading
