The Foyle Cup – Good Luck to Marc Bircham & the QPR U16’s

I was pleased to hear that Marc Bircham will be taking our U16 squad to Northern Ireland to compete in this year’s Foyle Cup which is held annually in Derry and the surrounding areas. The six-day tournament commences on 19th July and our first match will be against Glentoran on the following day. The other teams in Group H are Ballymoney United and Donegal Colts.

The competition started in 1992 when just eight teams entered. Niall Quinn launched proceedings in 2003 and was followed three years later by the former Northern Ireland Manager, Lawrie Sanchez. As with the prestigious Milk Cup, the Foyle Cup has grown in stature and is held around the same time. Over the years it has featured the Academy sides of Ferencvaros and Werder Bremen plus teams from Canada, France and the USA etc. The tournament culminates at Derry City’s Brandywell Stadium.

Good luck to Birch and the U16’s.
