Ivor Powell’s Wartime Account Of Football In India

Posted on by Site Admin

The news this week that Ivor Powell had finally decided to retire as probably the world’s oldest football coach at the tender age of 93, reminded me of an article that he wrote for the Rangers 1946-47 handbook. He joined the R’s in September, 1937 and later enlisted into the R.A.F. and served as a physical training instructor. He was posted to India in 1943 and joined the forces’ football team which also included fellow team-mate, Billy McEwan:- ‘Many famous … Continue reading

I Was QPR’s 250,000th Supporter

Back in 1967, I was going through the turnstiles at the Loft End and saw Ron Phillips standing by the wall. He then waved to me and I pointed to myself. That’s how I came to be the 250,000th spectator as reported in the Shepherds Bush Gazette:- ‘Colin Vine had a pleasant surprise waiting for him when he passed through the Queen’s Park Rangers turnstile on Saturday for their match with Portsmouth. Waiting inside the ground was Rangers’ Secretary, Ron … Continue reading

In Memory Of Kiyan Josiah Prince: 25th November 1990 – 18th May 2006

Posted on by Site Admin

It was four years ago today that we heard the terrible news about 15-year-old Kiyan Prince. I wrote the following article after attending his funeral in North London:- The Service for Kiyan was held last Thursday at the 7th Day Adventist Church in the Holloway Road.¬†¬†¬† I arrived quite early and the Church Hall began to fill up very quickly. Soon, it was standing room only and the later arrivals stood outside. All in all, there must of been around … Continue reading

Ben Kosky’s article in ‘The Kilburn Times’ follows on – Steve Russell Elated Steve Gallen is confident that his team’s stirring victory in the Youth Alliance League Cup Final can be the launch pad to regaining Academy status. Gallen’s under-18’s side, who finished runners-up in the league, fought back from 3-1 down to beat Stockport County 4-3 at … Continue reading

‘The Man Confident That A Land Of Hoop & Glory Awaits QPR’

Posted on by Site Admin

The following article was written by James Olley and appeared recently in the London Evening Standard ‚Äì Steve Russell The Championship season may be drawing to a close but at Loftus Road there’s a sense of a new dawn. Queens Park Rangers have represented something of a calamity to those who assumed the arrival of Flavio Briatore and the super-rich Mittal family in late 2007 would automatically awaken a sleeping giant. Instead, confusion reigned as six permanent Managers failed to … Continue reading
