My thirteenth birthday was on the horizon and it was time to make a decision regarding my main present from my parents. There was little hesitation on my part when I opted for a day trip to Ashford Town with all expenses paid, to see Rangers take on the Kent non-league minnows in the FA Cup 2nd Round tie. My Father was not exactly overwhelmed with my choice:”You mean to tell me that I have got to take you all … Continue reading →

A journey through the life and times of Queen’s Park Rangers FC from 1988 to 1996, as seen through the pages of ‘In The Loft’ fanzine. Just why do QPR get such bad gates ? There are many reasons why, all of them could be put right by the Club, but we all know they seem more interested in looking after their ‘richer’ fans. A lot of you will be in agreement with those words but they’re not mine. They … Continue reading →

Steve handed me my ticket for the match which he had generously bought and the programme. He tapped the programme with his finger saying, “You might want to check that out.” I did. By Christ ! There on page six in the ‘hoops messageboard’ section was a picture of my ugly mush astride a Mod Vespa with a little bit of history. I just couldn’t believe it and I wondered what had I done to deserve such plaudits ? I … Continue reading →

At the interval, the best thing to happen, for us anyway, was the sight of Akos Buzsaky himself, warming up under the eye of one of the coaches. Akos spent the whole fifteen minutes of half-time warming up, seemingly ready to come on at the resumption but then sat down with the rest of the subs as the game re-started. I know I am biased, but what the hell the Hungarian coach, Dutchman Erwin Koeman, saw in the players he … Continue reading →

Team: Bulmer, Cox, ilesanmi, Smith, Harris, Wright, Parker, Brittain, Ehmer, German, Nanetti Subs: Waters, Bailey, Perrin, Molloy, Vanterpool Danny Davenport had a foot injury and was replaced by Max Ehmer who had returned from Germany after representing a regional side there. There was no sign of the trialist, Jerson Dos Santos who had played against Wycombe so Christian Nanetti also started. The game kicked off two minutes late and soon it began to rain. We remember in particular those servicemen that had played for Queen’s Park Rangers at some stage in their career before losing their lives serving their Country. Last year I recorded the names of the following players:- Evelyn Lintott, Albert Bonass, Frank Cannon, Joseph Dines, Charles Clarke, Albert Edwards, H.J.Pennifer, John Tosswill and H.V.Thornton. After some further research, I noted that Dennis Signy mentions in his book, a ‘J.Butler ‘as being a victim of the Great War. Furthermore, Gordon Macey refers … Continue reading →

As the Lovin’ Spoonful said: ‘What a day for a daydream’ except that this was no daydream, this was stark reality as I stepped into the shower in my tiny bed and breakfast room in Shepherd’s Bush Road on Saturday morning, 18th October last. The stark reality buzzing like a rusted chain-saw in my head was the fact that I had the mother of all headaches after a feast of generously poured Guinness with my friend Malcolm Garrard the night … Continue reading →

Well here we were then on the sun soaked Mediterranean island of Malta. This was a tough job but somebody had to do it and those picked for the task were just me and the missus, who quite fancied a week lying about in the sun, lazy sod ! Unlike our last expedition to watch Buzzer play for Hungary in Budapest against Denmark, at least he was fit and had made the squad this time, so things were looking good … Continue reading →
