Goodbye And Good Luck To Liam O’Brien

The Official Portsmouth Website made the following announcement today: Pompey have completed the signing of goalkeeper Liam O’Brien from QPR. The Blues have paid the Championship side an undisclosed fee for the 16 year old. O’Brien, who has signed as a schoolboy, has also agreed a two-year scholarship, which begins next Season. The Club Census 40 Years Ago

On the 6th April 1968, our opponents at Loftus Road were Carlisle United and in the match programme that day were the results of a census taken of the QPR fan base. How extensive this sample was I don’t know but it would have certainly been very different if there had been one taken ten years earlier before many more families were to leave West London. ‘The Rodney’

Although it was almost 40 years ago, the Shepherd’s Bush and White City areas of West London had already been shrouded in darkness for many years. The Manager Alec Stock, forlornly wandered the pitch at the empty stadium. Although the floodlights were fully on, little, if any light made its way through the gloom and reached the pitch. The President’s 17th International Cup Tournament

This annual Korean Tournament started in 1971. Originally, the participating national and club teams were mainly invited from Asia. The R’s represented Great Britain in June 1988 and the other fifteen teams were made up of Olympic, national and club sides from:- Mexico, Zambia, Italy, Czechoslovakia, Turkey, Peru, Yugoslavia, USA, USSR, Nigeria, Iraq, Argentina, Hungary and two from the host country.
